New Bike Lane on Christopher Street (New York City)

There are many bike lanes designated by paint in Manhattan’s bustling streets. Most are a simple white line with a rudimentary, almost Mayan looking cyclist with the head facing the direction the bike traffic should follow. Delivery men never follow the rule, but as long as my pad thai is in my apartment in less than 20 minutes I’m not complaining.
The west village is different, though, and these aqua lanes have just been painted (5/21, 5/22) to mark the space that cars should leave open for cyclists.

The bike lane on this section of Christopher is much needed. There is a lane (not as colorful) more East, but it stopped at 6th Avenue. Cars would drift and with the shade (as you can see in the photo) it’s sometimes hard to see cyclists. Lanes like these, extending from 6th to Hudson, should help, but cyclists always have to be careful. Helmets, people. Helmets.

Time Out New York Makes a Great Spy

Time Out New York picked an interesting and fashionable subject for their I, New York public eye page. (Sounds close to I Spy NYC, huh? We need to link up.)  Not only does Janean make for a good subject, we used to work together and she’s an all around good person. If anyone in NY is looking for a painter and artistic perspective on city buildings, look up Janean.
