Clean and Dirty

Clean and Dirty, originally uploaded by marc.cappelletti.

Sometimes a scene will stop you in your tracks. This laundry among a sea of graffiti did it to me. Even though these buildings are covered in graffiti, there’s something beautiful about them too. You’ll have to check it out. As you walk across the Manhattan Bridge over to Brooklyn (or the other direction), get on the downtown-facing side. You can’t miss it.

Manhattan Morning Along the Water

It’s so fun to get out in the early morning and watch what’s going on along the water. All the people running, fishing, doing tai chi, and even some shady characters who you probably don’t want to know what they’re doing. This is what I saw on today’s gray morning.

Watching these women do tai chi was beautiful. So fluid and graceful. You really feel like they’re in tune with what’s going on around them. Rooted.

And because I work for Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic, I couldn’t help but get excited when I found a sculpture on along the east river representing harbor seals along the shore.

A Flash of the City

A Flash of the City, originally uploaded by marc.cappelletti.

Sometimes the city can seem like a blur. Especially at night, if you’ve had a few cocktails.

Manhattan Bridge

There’s so much going on. Cars, the train, a southern view of Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan. The walk across the Manhattan Bridge is definitely more exciting than a regular stroll. From Manhattan, I took the N/R/Q to the Nassau stop and walked back.

Shake Shack After the Rain

The line usually as long as the Empire State Building is tall. The burgers — I couldn’t tell you. But they’re apparently legendary. All I know is, I like the sign and lights. Very cool.

Morning and Night, Best for Photos in NYC

Early morning or night, shooting in Manhattan is always more fun. I took most of these while exploring with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic photo specialist Michael Nolan. Check out his amazing wildlife images on his website, www.wildlifeimages.net.
